Easter & General Update
Easter Weekend was good
I went with
chickipu_no_oni and
tetsujinnooni out to Holley to Tersha's parents' house for Easter. First we stopped in Schenectady at Jon's parents' house for dinner- these sausage & egg patty with cheese on English muffin sandwiches (I think officially known as Sausage Things). Neffi was in the area too, and it was nice to see her before we went out separate directions (us to the west, her to the south). Then we started the long ride out west.
We got there really late (like 3:30 am). We slept for a while (I also had slept in the car). I got up in the morning (it was before noon!)and did a long walk. It was only supposed to be for a half hour, but ended up going for about 1.5 hours and about 5 miles, we think. Tersha's dad (Terry) ended up picking me up because I had been gone for so long and had forgotten my cell phone. Then Terry made corn pancakes for brunch. We used to make them for my dad, but they were never this good. Dinner was at this good BBQ place. The only thing I wouldn't order again is the french fries (apparently they don't make them often because other sides are more popular, so they were not fresh and a bit limp).
Sunday was Easter Dinner. In the morning I walked again, about 40ish minutes. Lunch consisted of a huge ham, mashed potatoes, scalloped corn, fruit/ambrosia salad and tea. So much tea I could have swam to England. Then came peanut butter pie (vanilla pb pie and chocolate pb pie). It was all good. Jon & Tersha got me to the train on time, so I got home really late (I took the 9:15 train).
Monday was Monday
I went to work. I made dinner (shrimp with olive oil and butter, smoked salt steamed asparagus and portobella mushroom caps, and baby boiled potatoes). I played a little Puzzle Pirates. I had some quality time with Marnen (who had been composing during the cooking dinner and Puzzle Pirates portions of the night). I slept.
Tuesday and Katie's Birthday
Tuesday I went to work. I hit the store for flowers for Katie since I was going over for birthday dinner. I found some nice white roses with baby's breath that had been dyed purple, all in a vase with purple paper and a lavender ribbon. I then stopped off at Adam's FairAcre Farms in Newburg after a call from Katie to find some interesting cheese. Dinner was steak (so far, every time I've been there at a "regular" family dinner it's been steak) and salad, and some sushi. "Dessert" was the cheeses I had found. the "Rosemary's Waltz" was a bit bland, but the smoked bleu cheese and the white stilton with strawberries were a hit. I stayed over (because driving late and me don't agree with each other), crashing on the couch because
bluewindkitsune (who it was great to see) had the playroom. I woke up in time to see
nounsandverbs wander in from work and head to bed, just as I had to get up and shower to get into work.
This morning- Health Assessment and Chair Massage
I left a bit early than I needed to, partially because I'm still gaging how long it takes from Warwick, and partially because I wanted to get here in time for a health assessment screening that they were doing in the cafeteria (they're having it today and tomorrow, but since I was going to try to be early today since I was coming from afar it helped get me here early). I got in as they started the assessments and I still ended up being a bit late back to my desk (but I logged in beforehand).
My glucose is in range (93 fasting, which is on the higher end of ok, but not danger zone). My blood pressure was just a little over the edges or normal, but not in the risk areas (124/82). My total cholesterol is very good (124), but my "good" HDL cholesterol is low (only 28 and the min is 40). My body composition is at risk too (BMI is currently about 36.2, which is Class II Obesity, but I'm close to dropping to Class I), and my % body fat (they had the little scanner to look at that too and not just the BMI) is 35.5%, which is "well above average". For all these things, exercise and losing weight will help, which I've been working on already. There was also an Osteoporosis screening, which I did because of my family history. They had a neat little ultrasound devise and my T-Score was -0.5. Which is actually above the dividing line of -1.0 (and not 0, like most scales). They have a program to sign up for more intensive coaching for free (usually it's pretty expensive apparently), which I did sign up for. The program gives you a coach that calls periodically and works out short and long term goals.
For doing the assessment, they also had a couple of people doing chair massages. Oh gods, I didn't want to go back to work when he was done. The nice gentleman who gave me my massage had nice and warm hands, and appreciated the fact that I was wearing velvet and not polyester. It must be much nicer on his hands. And I have to get more massages.
They're also giving out pine seedlings for Earth Day at the cafeteria.
Now for the rest of the day.
Sunday (04-23) will be my 5th anniversary on LJ.
