Pennsic

you guys are right.... I may well not be able to go. I need to find out how many days I used due to personal illness and Ed. I need to find out what, if anything, my direct bosses can do to help.

I need the break... but can't afford to do it unpaid. Part of me is screaming in frustration because I need to get away. If my only true vacation this year ends up being eaten up because I did what I had to do for my family... while I don't regret doing what I had to do, the unfairness of the universe is getting a little fucking tedious to put up with (to put it mildly).

Part of me just wants to give up on everything so badly right now.

update: I think another thing that is making it hard is the fact that everyone here just got back from vacation, is on vacation, or talking about the vacation they're about to take. And here my vacation went out the window because I did what I had to for my family.

Yes, the universe is very unfair at times, but...

Before you start your screaming, see how many of your days you've actually used so far. Worse comes to worst, see if you can take a long weekend so you only burn one or two days and still, possibly, have days left for the remainder of the year.

No giving up... makes you stronger... all that BS... ;) Just think of this as ... another f&*%&$%g growth experience. ;)

can the fucking growth experiences just take a break? Gods, I'm facing the fact that I might have to effectively take over my family because of what happened to Ed. I just need a fucking break.

you'd think that having turned 30 I'd just accept the shit that happens in life instead of getting upset

A number does not mean that we accept these things as gracefully as we'd like. You are stressed. Of COURSE, you're going to be upset about this. It's totally normal! And it's so much better to vent your frustrations than hold them in. (Learned that lesson the hard way.) Just remember that there are alternatives...

I tend to get embarrased when the frustration leads me to leaking (my term for crying when I don't want to/feel that I shouldn't), especially when I'm at work.

especially as I get older. I shouldn't loose it at work like I did yesterday.

See what I previously posted about 3 day Pennsics.

I've done the 3-4 days Pennsics. It sucks but it's worth it. I would rather have a couple of days at Pennsic then no days at all. I actually haven't done a full week at Pennsic for a while now. Enjoy what you can I say.

yeah, but if I only have 3 days and have to save something in case, oh I gods forbid get sick myself or have to go to a lawyer for Ed or something... it whittles down to almost a 1 day pennsic (get there sometime the last Friday, sleep, have Saturday, then leave Sunday).

sorry, I'm in a spiral right now...

opps, that was me

[identity profile] purpura.livejournal.com 2005-07-12 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok, now is when you need to stop the spiral. If you want to save paid days, then save them. Can you afford one unpaid day? Leave Thursday night out and Sunday morning back. This gives you 2 full days. And if it doesn't endanger your job, perhaps not so much problems monetarily.
Pack food in advance - always cheaper to make salads and keep it in the cooler. Treat it like a really long drive to Roses then. There are a ton of places you can scrimp and save and figure this out.
Hell, if you can come over sometime this week (after you get all the info about time off from work - you alluded that your bosses may help you out some) and we can put everything down on paper and figure out a plan.
Planning always beats out downward spirals. You can do this Millie, I know you can.
You want Pennsic, we just need to find out every possible way to get you there. And even if it doesn't work out and we can't... then you know you gave it the fight of your life and someday the Karma check will be cashed in from it!

Also, don't do last friday-last sunday. Do something around mid-weekend. Say, drive straight from work friday night, and stay as many days as you can, driving back at noon on the last day you can. Make arrangements to stay in someone's tent if you need to, at least the night you arrive. If you take 1 day off, you'll have 2 full days of pennsic.

If you do the last weekend, people tend to bug out starting saturday so you'll basically be wasting a full day.

Also, you may want to look into the Family Medical Leave Act - it should allow you to take up to 3 months off of from work if it's a qualifing event (and I would say that this is) and they have to hold your job for you! The only down side is that you don't get paid for the time you take off :( , but it may be a good option for you.
