MEPACON was cool. I saw old friends, and I hope
Friday night
I ran out from work, stopped off at the Super WalMart to get some fruit for the weekend (and ended up finding a nice skirt too that works with a light top/vest I recently picked up). I then hit the road for Scranton, and made really excellent time to the hotel.
I got checked in and into my room, which unfortunately was a smoking room. I had forgotten that these things still exist. But it wasn't the end of the world, so I just went along with it.
I popped downstairs to check in and find the RPGA room. I found everything in order and caught up with
auntiero and
rombarro. Poor Casey- that sucker for responsibility was running the RPGA admin side of things for the con, and I know he ran at least 2 games during the weekend.
I had a little time before my first session (COR5-18 Kusnir) started, so I ran across the street to a dollar store to get some stuff I'd forgotten (and found gallons of decent water too), and to a pizza/Italian/sub place and got a turkey wrap. There was a bunch of places nearby to get food. I have to remember this, and the fact that the rooms have mini fridges and microwaves (should make it even cheaper).
I also ran into Sean, who's Ragne/Myrkie, at the con during the weekend.
My first session was pretty cool. I rolled really well on a survival/search check and was able to find the trap door that made the rest of the game go really smoothly and easily. That and the Silent One wizard who cast a full strength Ray of Enfeeblement on a big foe making it easy for the rest of us to get him. We did give him a chance to surrender... put he went to pull out a wand of inflict wounds.
After this session, I went to sleep. Even without the week I had previously, a midnight to 4am session then playing in a 9 am session was not going to happen.
Saturday
I got up, early. Too early. 6 am in fact. First I called Mom (who's usually up early anyway) for an update on Aunt Glady, then I got something to eat, hit the pool for some exercise, and went back to my room for a shower. Then I went downstairs and still had time for a little more breakfast (juice and an english muffin) with Casey and Sue and some of the other con attendees before starting my games for the day.
The first game was the Saltmarsh Interactive (Part 1). It was fun, and a bit chaotic, especially the last 20+ player fight. I spent most of the mini scenarios with Sue, splitting up only when I fell through the floor.
Then Sue, I, and a couple of other people hit the Subway that was hidden in the gas station next door to grab food back for lunch.
My next session (COR5-17 Time's Tide on Bright Sands) was really cool. Mary Alyce (I think that's her name) is a cool GM and I had her for another session later in the weekend. Sue was in this session with me as well. I also got to 75 points away from hitting 3rd level for my druid.
After that session I picked up wings for dinner at the Italian place across the street (the other lady that was in the Times Tide session had wings for lunch and said they were good, so I decided to try them). I then met up with the GM and another player for my next session (KEO5-07 The Thin Edge of the Wedge), but the other two people who signed up for the slot didn't show, and for an RPGA game you have to have at least 4 people.
So I went to take a nap with the intent to play Midnight Madness. I even woke up in time. When I got to the RPGA room the Saltmarsh Interactive was still going on (with the high level session), and most of the players and GMs were wrapped up in that. Sue finished her game session about 12:30 and headed to bed, while Casey had to wait for the wrap up of the Interactive session. I waited for it two, and realized that it was around 1 o'clock. It would be impossible for a session to start before it was too late for me (to find out they started at about 2 am) and get up for my 9 am session, even with the nap. So I went back to bed.
Sunday
I didn't get up as early, but I had enough time to call for another update, shower, and eat breakfast before my first game session (COR5-19 Retribution). Ok, so my idea in that game to sneak up on someone to talk to them wasn't the best idea, but we got another chance to contact the npc and I apologized before saying anything else. And thereby avoided the wrath of the Greyhawk Thieves' Guild. And it gave me a reason to smack, repeatedly, the half-orc druid who was in the party (because he DESERVED it for trying to intimidate the npc, after the rest of us were starting to let her go (I was just waiting for my turn to let her go, but I had the lowest initiative).
I then grabbed lunch and went to play my next session (KEO6-02 Forest of Ribbons). But the kids (including the player of the half-orc) who were also going to play went to get their lunch, and never came back. So the GM of the lower APL (Average Player Level) session talked to the GM of the higher APL session and I got to sit in and work effectively as a cohort, and as the only healer and druid/nature type zip in and out with giving people taps with the "happy stick," aka a wand of cure light wounds.
I headed home, stopping off to pick up birch beer (which I can almost never find in NY) at a little super market across the street from the hotel first, then getting home and stopping at the diner by home for dinner.
