This whole slide into a war has been some nightmarish roller coaster without breaks. It almost feels like yesterday things were normal, as normal as they could be in a nation re-learning themselves after 9/11. True, it wasn't just yesterday; this military action has been building up for the past couple of months...

I'm a bit scared. Bush and the rest of the “coalition” have chosen to ignore the UN Security Council. That council is part of an international organization that the US was firmly rooted into the creation and development of.

It’s the cold dawn of the American Empire. Indications of it have been given in the past, but this is a concrete start, like a while ago when Bush was trying to intimidate the world with the “if you aren’t with us, you’re against us, and if you’re against us, we’ll put you on the list of targets” after September 11, 2001. America, through the actions of her President, has thrust herself upon the rest of the world as its authority, its justice, and its judge.

And not all of America agrees with it. Not the entire world agrees with it.

I agree that Saddam is dangerous. But the world is always going to have dangerous people. If we remove him, I wonder who’ll step in behind him. Or who will be the next “big bad guy” that Bush decides to go after.

I can’t throw myself into total belief of Bush’s claims, the reasons he gives. I wish the “proof” that Bush keeps saying there is regarding Iraq’s involvement in 9/11 was more concrete, that the accusations of Iraq having various weapons weren’t so muddied. Yeah, if Saddam has something to hide in terms of weapons capacity, he could keep hiding it because of how the inspections work, but accusations of false proof to justify American action are just as valid.

However, something has to be done. I’m not sure what though.

I support the men and women who’ve been, and will be, sent into this conflict. There are people I know who are active in the military now, and I have friends who might get activated. I hope the casualties are as low as they can be on both sides, and that innocents aren’t harmed (either by accident or treachery).

Yes, I’m little naive in that hope. But that’s my prayer for this. I hope it ends quickly, but that will probably be a false hope as well.

In the meantime, time is running out to hold a moderate opinion in America it seems. Every day I get the feeling of you have to be one or the other- either fully behind the war or totally against it.

Sorry if this seems a little confusing… then again, I am confused about it the whole thing and where I stand. Gods, I'm so confused.
