weekend update

Friday Night
I got a late start out from my apartment. The traffic down here sucked due to the Empire State Games (getting home and getting out of home). There was a line at the Stop & Shop gas station (there always is, because it's one of the cheaper gas stations around, and you get 5 cents off the price of regular if you use a S&S card, making it just about *the* cheapest). I also had some last minute stuff to pick up for Mom (like a new dish drain). I then decided to take the Taconic and back roads to avoid the whole 787/I-90/9&20 bridge issue. The end result is that I got to Mom's pretty late. Ed had set up his tent for me to sleep in... very meticulously. He even staked it down even though it was only for overnight. I was tired and the canned salmon and green bean casserole that Mom made wasn't looking appetizing, so all I had was a potato that Ed had left for me and some milk. Mom uses whole milk in the house, and I could taste the difference. I had also grabbed a big bean burrito from Taco Bell on the way to the gas station earlier in the night, so I was set anyway.
Saturday- Cleaning
I got up, grabbed breakfast (1 egg, 1 cup blueberries, 1 cup apple juice) and started cleaning. 3.5 hours later, I'm wiped out and all I did was the stove/oven, some of the floor (around the stove and sink), the sink, and dishes (to the point where I threw out 2 pans that where warped and beyond salvation). Then again the job I did on the stove was one of the ones that involved lots of degreaser and scrubbing, the type of über-cleaning that most people (from my experience) do a few times a year. Mom cleans as much as she can, but she's 71 with osteoporosis, so she can't really bend down to get some of the areas on the stove, so I did have my work cut out for me.
Saturday- Jean Exchange
Then I asked Ed what size jeans he's wearing now. I had been wearing our Dad's old jeans, but I've lost enough weight that they're falling off of me now. Ed said that he was now back into his older jeans (36s I think), and I asked to try on the larger ones that he no longer fits into. They fit (mostly, the 38 is too small, but the 40/42s fit ok. Dad wore around a 52/54 I think). I now have a bag of hand me down jeans (some need to be patched).
Saturday- Lunch and going to Scotia
Then I made myself lunch (salad with low fat dressing for 1 pt, and more apple juice). I then visited my Aunt Glady (she only lives a couple of doors down), then cleared out my car for Ed to ride with me to Watervliet. He desperately wanted to leave Mom at home (because they're getting on each others' nerves), but the plan was to take my car to Watervliet, then the three of us go out for the day, and then I go back to Watervliet and they go home, and Ed isn't cleared to drive. The next time I come up, we'll have to leave Mom behind. I at least got him away from her for the ride to Watervliet.
We went to Peddler's Wagon Plus, the shop and action hall
tetsujinnooni's mom runs. She had a big "yard sale" in the auction hall of stuff that she wasn't putting in the store and wouldn't work in an auction.
auntiegrizelda was there working her pretty butt off being the butch one of the bunch. From that I found 1 replacement pan for Mom, a fabric cutting board/guide, a small folding baker's rack/bookcase, and some smaller random stuff (like ceramic containers with lids that I can use to hide things at Pennsic, like medications, and a larger Japanese tea pot than the cracked one I have). We then went over to the regular shop where I got Mom an automatic drip coffee pot (her had been broken for at least 3 months), and a nice Irish linen shirt with machine blackwork and a denim button-down dress.
tetsujinnooni and
chickipu_no_oni then showed up. We went back to the auction hall because Tersha had left an operations manual for a locomotive engine from the 1950s that she had found for Ed there. Then after people talked more, a decision was reached to go to Capital Buffet (?) on Wolf Rd. for food.
We then went back to Jon and Tersha's house, where I took a shower and soon fell asleep. Damn it, my body has gotten used to getting to sleep at 10-11pm so I can be at work at 7am... so I missed a good time at
hotspurre and
giftchild's apartment.
Got up Sunday and spent a little time with Jon and Tersha before making my slow way home. I ended up in New Paltz and called
marnen over to join me for some wandering around and food at this place called Tokyo Sushi, which had a combination of sushi and Korean food. I had a Korean style scallion pancake for the first time, and it was good. I also had full fat, full calorie Green Tea ice cream for the first time in ages (then again, I've not had full fat, full calorie ice cream in the longest time either). Considering all that I had eaten up until that point was a pint of OJ and some veggie chips made by a farm that had a stand at a rest area, I didn't do too badly. Not quite half of the sushi (bunch of roles) came home and will be dinner tonight.
