Someone on the Weight Watchers board just asked: I am wondering..Why am I really overweight? Why has this been a battle since high school? Besides the fact that I just cant focus and dont exercise, is there a deeper reason? Does anyone know what their issue is and how do you think you can overcome that?

Here's my response:

Genetics (including a dose of hypothyroidism) didn't help, so I realize I'm not going to be a size 2 even if I didn't have an ounce of fat. I just have to work at getting as healthy as possible.

Lack of activity didn't help, so I have to haul my lazy behind to the gym and other activities.

Not thinking about *what* I was is eating didn't help, so I have to watch what I eat and how much of it. (grant you, it also means at times I decide to get the fillet mignon, baked potato, and dessert... but that is a decision I now make with more of a clue).

Not thinking about *why* I was eating didn't help, so I have to ask myself if I'm really hungry or if something else is going on.

Believing one is just fat and ugly and that's that didn't help, so I have to have discussions with those personal demons and sometimes get validation from outside sources (but I know it's hard to listen to them at times too).
