I've gotten behind on the posting my WW journal online. I will start again tomorrow.

Friday Night- Lincoln Center and Indonesian theater
Friday night Marnen and I went to the State Theater at Lincoln Center to see a performance of I La Galigo, an Indonesian creation epic directed by Robert Wilson (who works with Philip Glass a lot). It was pretty cool, but over 3 hours with no intermission, and some of it dragged. I loved the costuming though- there was a very very clear showing of who was who and who was descended from whom. I'd never been to Lincoln Center before, so it was a great experience. We were sort of in the center on the 4th tier.

Friday Night: Tsukski, aka I still have an incredible yummy feeling in my mouth
After the performance we went to this little Japanese resturant called Tsukushi. (300 E. 41st St.) I first read about it in a NY Times review. It's a tiny little place that you probably wouldn't find unless you had the address and were looking for it. It's behind a simple black door with an awing over it that just has the name in small letters. We ended up spending more than we intended, but good gods, the food and service was incredible. A definate food-gasam. There is no menu, but it is omakase, chef's choice. We had this pickled salad (Marnen has it written down what the green was), kiriboshi-daikon (daikon made to resembe noodles with strips of bean curd), sashimi (octopus that was tender, a difficult thing, fluke, and sea urchin. It was the first time I had sea urchin. It was interesting, but I won't order it on my own.), cabbage with pork and bean curd, a salt broiled cod, and slices of medium rare duck next to a macraoni salad (not your usual style). What I loved the best was the kiriboshi-daikon, the cod (oh my gods, I think I almost had an orgasm just over that), and the duck. It's also a bottle bar (I forget the Japanese term)- basically, you can buy a bottle of something (predominartey a single brand of shochu), label it with your name, and leave it there. Just one hint if you go there- even though the most expensive item is only $10, if you get a lot of dishes (we ended up with 6 separate dishes), the $ adds up.

Saturday: visitng friends
Then Saturday (after going to work and picking up my car, which I had left there when we went down to the City) I made my way up to Albany. I took [livejournal.com profile] irishwitchyone down to the bar a couple of doors away and got her a drink. There was airconditioning and no screaming children. I think she liked it. Then I rescued [livejournal.com profile] sadyghent for a while from the kids. I was good to talk to him, one on one, for a while. It's something that we haven't had the chance to do for ages. If you didn't know, of the people I hang out with, he's known me longer than anyone execpt my brother (he beats out [livejournal.com profile] ioldanach by a year. I also got to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] chickipu_no_oni and [livejournal.com profile] tetsujinnooni for a little bit... they had Firefly and I got one more episode in- I finally got to see Kaylee call Mal "Captian Tight Pants".

Sunday: Visitng Family
Sunday I went to visit Mom and Ed out in Pittstown. Ed's stable, still shaking at times, still getting confused, but with streatches of time where he's more like the brother I know. I also ended up cleaning the kitchen a bit. Mom's spending a lot of her energy on trying to handle Ed, and it shows. I have a list of stuff for her to pick up (if she gets the time) between now and the end of the month when I'll go up again, use a tent in the yard to sleep over, and spend a good solid day cleaning. Or if she doesn't get to pick it up, I have a copy of the list and measurements to make a shelf for the kitchen under the sink cabinet- the shelf disintergrated a while ago and needs a replacement.

Mom and Ed need to get out of there though. The place is falling down around their ears. Aunt Glady's trailer is in better shape but apparently leaks.

Back to the grindstone
Work has been hectic. The guy that I'm the backup for was gone last week and is out this week on vacation in California. So I'm doing his work, and my work, and trying to be on the phones when I can. I've not been on the phones much, but stuck between one high severity issue and another.

Now to have samosas before going to dance practice.

We had this pickled salad (Marnen has it written down what the green was)

It wasn't quite a pickled salad; it was oshitashi or ohitashi -- greens lightly boiled in dashi (bonito stock) with a little soy sauce and served cool. Usually it's made with spinach, but this contained watercress, probably mixed with a milder green vegetable (though I couldn't tell for sure).

It's also a bottle bar (I forget the Japanese term)

The Japanese term is ボットルキープ (bottoru-kiipu), from the English "bottle-keep". The system is apparently quite common in Japan, but almost unknown here.

And yes, the food absolutely kicked ass. *purr*
