and he *sounded* like my brother again. He knows that things are off- he recognizes that some of his perceptions are screwy (like looking at a crossword puzzle and not being able to make any sense of it, or re-reading a manga and the story not even looking the same). He thinks it might be the medication, but we have to see.

But he's feeling so much more stable. And now he's bored. The soap operas that Mom watches during the day are driving him nuts. Besides the fact that they're silly things (an opinion both he and I share), he realizes that his reality is being shaped by what he's seeing and hearing so to have one's sense of reality influenced by soap operas is annoying. He's even cleaning up the house a little; partially because he's bored, and partially because he's trying to put things in order. A pile of SCA stuff, a pile of model train stuff, a pile of Jaycees stuff.... and now he's realizing that a couple of weeks ago when he didn't realize exactly what he was throwing out he may have thrown out some things that he didn't want to (like a train engine he now cannot find).

Currently they're trying to get him into a day program to get him back on track emtionally/cognitvely, but the closest one that has room for someone his age is in Saratoga. And Mom would have to bring him to Saratoga County before they can pick him up and bring him the rest of the way. And he's not getting $ for disablity yet, and he's not worked in just over a month... so how they expect her to be able to afford the nearly hour drive one way to get him there is beyond me. They also haven't gotten all the stuff from Samaritan (and neither have the doctors), because there's more and more release forms that Samaritan is requiring (for HIPPA) before they will send it.

Currently, his pre-appointment for a neuro-psych eval is 9/20, but they're trying to see if he can get in earlier.

Has it only been a month?... I just checked- it's been just over 5 weeks.

I'm going up this Friday and staying over in Ed's tent for the night, then spending Friday night and Saturday cleaning. Ed may even be able to help (which would be a good thing for him right now, I think). Depending on the time frame and distance, I might be able to get them out of the house and to the garage sale at Peddler's Wagon later in the day. The only time Ed's been out of the house/trailer park for the past month has been to go to something related to getting sick, so having a "normal" outing should do him some good... I hope.

Glad to hear he's starting to improve. Good luck with the rest of it!

And I agree, going out for a "normal" outing will definitely do him (and you and your mom) some good.

I only recently checked my friends list and saw all these posts about your brother. I am sorry to hear all this, but happy that he's getting better. Been a while since I've seen him last. Wish him well for me please. My prayers are with you all and for his continued recovery.
