Pennsic- part 1
Tuesday- We got on site at 5am on Tuesday, and slept a couple of hours in the car.
The rest of Tuesday was spent setting up, hitting the Wal-Mart in Butler, then running over to Tancred of Tanglewood's shop to get my mirror box, then over to the Kama Sutra Class for women class (
marnen with me the whole way).
The mirror box is something that I went to get last War, but had held off on for the end of war sale. He was out of them when I tried to get it later. So this year I swore that it would be my first purchase. And his line expanded a little (before he just had small and large, now he has an option of shallow and deep). Basically, there is a mirror hinged into the lid (which is hinged to the box). There is a couple of strips of wood in the top part of the box that acts as a rest for the mirror, so the mirror can be propped up without any hassles. Pictures to follow. I picked up a small deep box for $30. When I picked mine up this year on Tuesday of War week, he was left with 4 boxes of that size. His work is great (I'll probably pick up some more of his stuff the next War I get to... or if I can get out to Ice Dragon- he's from Ealdormere).
The Kama Sutra for Women class was great. No cookies for anyone though (the teacher had a bag of cookies, and if someone managed to embarrass her they got a cookie).
On the way back, Marnen and I stopped off at the shop Maison Rive on the way back to camp. After some discussion with Pat (
purpura's mother) earlier in the day, we figured that this was probably where Pat had gotten her really cool aprons. They're hemp and can last through any cleaning (and always have a good side available for presentation). The aprons were there and I happily brought 2 of them.
Wednesday- really set up the tent (and made it look nice). I went to a class on Music from Shakespeare's plays, which I remembered part way through that I went to the same class last year (in the rain). I stayed though- the teacher is a good singer. I then wandered around a little bit before another class, which the teacher never showed up for. I also delivered the new Dr. Who to Marcus of Clan mac Pharlain and Piers at Thorny Rose... much to the chagrin and amusement of their respective wives. Since the third person from Glen Linn who wanted the episodes wasn't at War, I gave the last set of cds that I had made to Rowan (from Dione Sidhe).
East Kingdom Court, Wednesday night- I got dressed for court. In the green linen Elizabethan, with a ruff, gloves, and a walking stick. I looked good, and it was cooler than it looked, but it was rather warm. It was warm, and long; about 3-3.5 hours. Again more pictures to come later. Andrea MacIntyre from Ostgardr was elevated to both the Laurel and Pelican in the same court, a first for the East. Brid got her Pelican. I cried. A lot of people cried. More pictures to be shown later.
After Court, I brought Brid's scroll back to Dione Sidhe, because I had gloves on. Then I went Midnight Madness shopping a little bit, stopping off at Cloak & Dagger to get a copy of The Weapon by Michael Z. Williamson (who also owns Cloak & Dagger) signed for
tetsujinnooni and
chickipu_no_oni. On my way back home I ran into a friend (who's not on LJ) who then escorted me home.
More to come
