Thanks to the overtime, I was able to afford to go up to Albany this past weekend and finally see the http://www.cruxshadows.com/ in concert at Valentine's. [livejournal.com profile] marnen couldn't make it because he had a gig in Staten Island on Saturday, then a English Country dance in Ridgewood on Sunday.

Garcias and Firefly
Friday night, after the usual trip to Garcia's (and had Serge as the waiter- He's Russian so I get some ordering food practice in Russian with him), we went to the Halfway House and I got 3 more episodes of Firefly in (so now I'm through disk 2).

Saturday early afternoon- Rebekahs with Mom
Saturday started with Mom picking me up and the two of us going to a School of Instruction for the Rebekahs the Rebekahs (IOOF). For those who don't know, it's a group that I've been in since I was 18 (and I have my own take on some of the religious linked aspects, but apparently I'm now the only one- I hear there's a primarily Wiccan Lodge in California). The School (a discussion/workshop) was on Officer Installations, which was good because I have been voted to become my Lodge's next Noble Grand (the Lodge president).

Later Saturday Afternoon- Finding a Ghost
After that, Mom dropped my back off at the Halfway House. [livejournal.com profile] chickipu_no_oni and I then did some errands, stopped off to try and get fencing stuff from [livejournal.com profile] sunatrya but to find out later she was stuck at work. So Terhsa an I stopped off at Flights of Fantasy and found that they had Ghost by John Ringo. Technically the book doesn't come out until the 30th, but we were able to pick up a couple of copies. Apparently, John is a big Crüxshadows fan, or at least his title character is, and some of the music mentioned in the book is from Crüxshadows songs. In fact, one of the novellas (it's a set of 3 stories) is called Winter Born, which is the title of a Crüxshadows song. I'd been reading the book on Tersha's PDA during the day (it had been a topic of discussion the night before).

So the plan was to get the books if possible, so we could get them signed by the band. We scored. *bounce* *Squee*

Saturday Early Evening- picking up Katie and getting fencing stuff
On the way back to grab food and get ready, we first got a call from Katie to help her with getting a dress set up for the concert, but since Tersha "had more weapons of creative destruction back at my [Tersha's] house" we decided to pick her up. We also got a call from Sunny and arranged (and accomplished) a pickup of the fencing gear after we got Katie. The gear including a jacket, gloves, gorget set up, and an epee.

Saturday Evening- Getting ready for the concert, aka Who's that?
We then went back to Watervliet (stopping off at McDonald's to get some food on the way) and got ready. While getting ready, I had a surreal moment. I had my hair up in a bun and I was putting on makeup. All I had left to do was put on lipstick, but I took my hair down and brushed it out. I believe my vocal reaction was "Good fucking Gods." I know with loosing the weight my face and look had changed (in fact, I commented about it in a journal post). This time... well, when I get the pictures downloaded from the camera you'll see what I'm talking about. Putting on the black lipstick didn't make much more of a difference. Now, I've done the goth thing before, and even fairly recently for the VNV Nation concert, but this time the change struck me like a strong headshot from a heavy fighter without the helm.

We got to Valentine's while the opening act was playing. There was a few amusing moments- like my having to take off my leather wrist cuff so I could put on the "yes I paid and I'm over 21" wrist band, and showing the book to Dan G. and basically loosing it for a while while we made another convert to the cause. *grin* Apparently, when he didn't have my book, he was asking Tersha to look at hers (as long as the Crüxshadows weren't playing).

Saturday Night- The Concert itself
The concert... good gods, it was wonderful. I split my time between dancing and taking pictures by the stage. I've only heard them on disk/computer before. Good gods, they're good. They have a violinist named Rachel- she's a good player and very pretty. Rogue, the lead singer, is fucking awesome. Since Valentine's is a smaller club venue, he got into the audience a lot to sing and interact with the crowd.

The crowd, including myself, went insane when they played Deception. It's the one that most people know because it was on the "Music from the Succubus Club" cd that was made for (?) Vampire: The Masquerade years ago. It's the song that they labeled as being for the Ravanos. I went crazy (and probably Tersha too, but we weren't next to each other for it), when they played Winter Born (I had finished close to that novella before the concert started).

For the last song (I don't even remember which one it is because I was in a happy happy happy place by this point) after the first verse, Rouge started pulling people up onto the stage. I was in one of the first batches. There ended up being a lot of people on it (and I got the camera to Tersha so she could record the fact that I was on the stage), and Chara (am I spelling the name even remotely correctly?) ended up next to me, after Rogue invited her up and I offered my hand to her.

Saturday Night- after the concert, book signing and pictures
Then after the concert was over (but where did the time go? they didn't play nearly long enough it seemed) Tersha and I started our mission to get the books signed. Mission accomplished. Rouge signed my book first with the first line of a verse in Winter Born ("Hold your head up high-for there is no greater love ", and after a time considering it, signed Tersha's book with part of the last line of the same verse ("Angels never cry"). [Tersha figured it out in the car just before we headed out- she had loaded the lyrics page from the Crüxshadows's website.] The whole band is so cool. Rogue seems to like hugging the fans, not that I'm complaining. We were able to get some pictures with Rogue as well.

Chara got a picture of me outside, and damn, I looked good. Earlier in the night, with the camera bag slung over one hip and my small purse attached to my belt hanging off the other side, Tersha made a comment that I looked a little commando. I know that I was walking with a swagger that I don't get often.

[livejournal.com profile] tetsujinnooni didn't make the concert, because he had gone with a group to a Magic: The Gathering pre-release tourney. He was home by the time we dropped off Katie and got back to Watervliet. So before passing out due to the long day and dancing, Jon showed us the cool cards that he scored in the tournament (it was sealed deck and he got 2nd in one of the flights) and Tersha and I bounced about showing the signed page of the book and going over concert tidbits.

Sunday- Getting home, finishing Ghost
Today, besides grabbing the bus home, I finished Ghost. Oh gods... The book is wonderful. And *not* intended for kids or the faint of heart. It's rather kinky, and written in a way that the kinky sex makes sense, and I love it. I *have* to find a way to meet the author and... I don't know. He's good and his characters and story pushed a few of my kinky buttons.

And now that I've finished gushing, I'm about to run to the store to get food to make tonight- tofu with peanut sauce over veggies.

Pictures to follow.
