Ok... so I don't think I've mentioned that there is a gaming con at SUNY New Paltz, NY this upcoming Saturday and Sunday. I offered to run a track of Living Greyhawk games (short explination - DnD 3.5 network sanctioned games).
So, it took a while to get the official word from the college that they could run/advertise the con. I started getting my RPGA stuff in line.
Scheduling issues- Ok, so the con is running 10-10 Saturday and 10-5 on Sunday. It made scheduling time for 4 hour modules and at least brief breaks for food... Interesting to say the least.
I just got an email this morning from the con staff that they just found out that the room that they have me scheduled in has to be closed an extra hour earlier than the rest of the con! . Which I can understand, but to find this It looks like the con has to be out off all the rooms, except one, by 10 pm, so they had to cut back on the time people were in the rooms so they would be cleared out in time out 3 days before the con?!?!?!
As it was I only had a half hour each for lunch and dinner on Saturday and playing it very close with the amount of time for introductory mods (which tend to run shorter, but usually we give the whole 4 hours just in case... I actually planned on the shorter time frame). Sunday only had a half hour break between a shorter intro mod and a full mod.
I'm working on an alternate schedule, and asking if we can get moved into another room that isn't going to close an hour early.
Paperwork and Organization response time: The response time for the RPGA is SLOW. From the support website and calling customer service after one takes their Herald (First) level Game Master test it can take 3-4 weeks for it to be processed to the point where you can order modules online (and you can't order them over the phone). And there is a 2-3 week response time on any email sent to the RPGA Sanctioning team, no matter what. Even if you get given something on a fast and furious basis and are looking for a quick answer. Or to get membership cards. So I'm looking at the possibility of having to bring envelopes with me, have new players fill them out, and mail the cards to them later. And hold off submitting any of the reporting forms until then (or even longer, since I also have to officially order the mods and get the game into the automated system before I send the report forms. So whichever happens later will effect when I can send in the forms.).
Fortunately, the guy that I've been working with from the Regional Triad has been an incredible help, and has a lot of suggestions.
